Housewife to Entrepreneur – Initiative of TATA Power & SPADE
Applied Maslowism
Remember Abraham Maslow’s Need Hierarchy theory? Here is a glimpse at its application with its micro and macrocosmic impact!
Jebunnesa (42), lived an inconsequent life of a housewife in poor rural family, but before intervention of the Livelihood Development Project in Khanpur, her village from 2015 by SPADE with support from TATA Power (TPCDT) CSR initiative. The Project simply fuelled her dormant yet indomitable spirit not only to become an entrepreneur and address the physiological needs of her beloved family members also be recognized by all thereby.
The Metamorphosis
The intervention facilitated the promotion, capacity building and bank linkage of “ Golap SHG” , the Self Help Group that she belongs to and thus inculcating the practice of savings and sowing the seed of dreaming for a dignified life where all agonies will cease to exist!
Having been linked with the flagship Programme of MGNREGA, Jebunnesa excavated six Kathas of pond for fish farming. Slowly, but steadily Jebunnesa made her own conversion as skilled farmer, both in vegetables and fish in scientific manner and assimilated ways of soil testing, pond preparation, fish feeding, netting, fish treatment and thereby reducing mortalities, recycling of farm waste, seed bed preparation, pest management, harvesting and follow up activities with SPADE-TATA team and the other Project allies.
In November 2021, she participated in entrepreneurship development training and experienced the soft skill part, especially preparation of micro investment plan, backward & forward linkage and basics of rural marketing.
The Qualified lady!
The hidden pain of Jebunnesa of incomplete education in her forming age is gone after acquiring life’s sustaining skills. Now, practices fish farming in 6 Kathas of ponds and vegetables in 3 Kathas of land. Higher quality and quantity of yield brings higher income for Jebunnesa.
Now, she earns Rs 1,00,000/- around as against previous amount of 72,000/- after CSR intervention which is pretty good for her family of six. Thus, the basic physiological needs are met well.
This sustainable and replicable model of best practice established by Jebunnesa has been widely disseminated among others by the Project that brought laurel and recognition to her, has elated the green lady as her Esteem need is also served.
Buoyant confidence: So, only a lady like Jebunnesa with bubbling confidence can boldly utter, “Today I am self-reliant, committed to scale up my unit. Without SPADE’s assistance, my dream would never have actualized…”
