Area of Implementation: Villages – Patikhali, Ward No. 12, Hadlia Municipality (Urban) and Villages- Khanpur & Urdhabmal, GP – Guyaberia, Block – Sutahata Dist.-Purba Midnapore, West Bengal (Rural).
Specific Intervention: Promoting Vegetables Gardens and Rearing Backyard Poultry Birds for Women SHG Members for Sustainable and Climate Resilient Livelihood.
Objectives of the Project:
- To equip the farming households including young and energetic women farmers with the ability to be self reliant and food/nutrition secured in an ecologically sound way, and to produce surplus and add value for effective marketing
- To complement and be actively involved in appropriate networks for information exchange and advocacy at all levels
- To develop at least one community Resource Persons (CRP) on each vocation who will provide escort services to the beneficiaries.
Strategies adopted:
- The programme was implemented by involving the women members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) & SHG based Area Level Federation & thus inculcated a sense of ownership among them
- The programme also involved various stakeholders, viz, Gram Panchayat, Banks, Haldia Municipality, Government Departments, input suppliers and local vendors
- Backward & forward linkage, i.e. a complete value chain was also established for procurement of better-quality inputs for income generating activities from renowned Amtala market, access to bank credit & information services from thematic experts of Krisi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)
- Community engagement meetings & partners’ meeting were regularly conducted to share the community views for better implementation of the programme.
